Hunting Dog Training Tips
Wednesday, October 29th, 2008The best source of information for hunting dog training tips is someone who has trained dogs before. You might have a friend or neighbor who has a well-behaved dog. Spend some time observing how they interact and see if they can provide some insider information. For now, here are a few things I have learned from training my dog. (1) It does not matter if the dog is bigger than you as long as you are confident. Do not let the dog sense that you are nervous or it will take over control from you. (2) Invest in a good collar and leash. In the beginning stages it will be important that you can hold them comfortably without hurting the dog. (3) Any dog is trainable, and any habit is breakable. Mine was terrible with other dogs and with children, and when we were done he was calm and gently. (4) Food rewards are good once in a while, but non-food rewards are better because it establishes a pecking order. Too many food rewards can undermine your authority. (5) Be confident and flexible. Every animal is different.
