Many businesses get sued every day, everywhere. This can happen whether the business is a corporation, an individual, a partnership or a non-profit. One of the ways a business can protect itself against costs arising out of lawsuits against it is by purchasing insurance. For example, a doctor will usually have malpractice insurance. In the case of individuals or firms whose business is consulting, design, sales or service, a type of insurance known as "errors and omissions" insurance, or E and O, is (or should be) included in the insurance coverage they buy. The errors and omissions insurance protects against claims resulting from alleged errors in work performed, or from failure to perform work that was promised, thus resulting in financial loss to the client.
