If you’ve ever decided to learn a new hobby or craft, you’ve probably been very anxious to get started and maybe looked around for some shortcuts for learning that new hobby or craft. This is usually a bad idea. The reason for this is that very often, the early stages of learning are the things that are retained most. So a bad habit learned early on, when you are learning how to knit, is one that may stay with you for quite a while. One way to avoid learning bad habits is to learn the knitting craft from an experienced knitter. If you’re lucky enough to have a friend or relative who is an expert knitter, ask them. If not, get a good book or e-book on the topic and follow the lessons in that book. A third option is to join a local knitting group, most communities have more than one, and seek help from the experienced knitters there. One of the nice aspects of picking up knitting as a hobby is that knitters in general are a very helpful group, and almost always willing to reach out and helping a fellow knitter.
