During the holiday time, it is often hard for families to make ends come together. There will be many church fund raising events as families find themselves trying to come up with ways to generate income. One of the easiest things to do for a family in need is to contact a local church or Christian organization and see if they would be willing to help.
If this is not an option you could contact one of your local discount stores and see if you could wrap presents for donations, set up a table at the exit of the store, create a sign explaining what the donations will go to and start wrapping.
You can raise money for children in need and you would really be surprised the amount people will donate.
