There are a variety of processes that are between the process of selecting the grapes and bottling them as finished wine and this process is termed vinification. Grapes are the source of wine; however wine can also be made from other fruit or non-toxic plant material. Water is one of the prime ingredients in wine; however ingredients like honey also serve as major contributor in wine like mead.
Carbonation sets apart two classes of wine making- one without it called still wine production and other with it is called sparkling wine production. Weather during the growing season, soil minerals and acidity, time of harvest and pruning method are some of the factors that affect the quality of grapes. A final dose of sulphite is added to the wine to preserve it and also prevent it from unwanted fermentation in the bottle. My next post will be about, wine making course.
