You might not recognize the names of young fashion designers Vanessa and Angela Simmons on sight, or even know them by their picture. They’re not pop singers or movie actresses. Who are these girls, then, and how did they get the opportunity to start their own line of sneakers called Pastry Shoes? Vanessa and Angela Simmons are the daughters of Joseph Simmons, also known as DJ Run, member of Run DMC. If you’re not old enough to remember, rap group Run DMC were music industry pioneers who, back in the day, helped bring the genre out of the underground and pushed it to the level of popularity it enjoys today.
