When baseball was just starting out, many players made their own Demarini CF4 bats. Round bats, flat bats, and heavy bats were all tried but it was found that barrel shaped bats worked the best. College baseball bats are now made of aluminum. The use of aluminum bats started in the 1970s. Because of budget crunches and the cost of wooden bats, which would break easily, aluminum bats became a staple in college baseball leagues. The use of aluminum bats has created a two sided debate. Some people like the excitement aluminum bats bring to the game because they allow hitters to hit more home runs. Others believe that aluminum bats are making it easier for players to hit home runs and therefore not everyone’s statistics are correct. Colleges are still using the aluminum bat and most likely will continue to do so.
