Typically, tour operators combine travel and tour components to set up a holiday just for you and a sample of such package would be a flight on a charter airline that will include the transfer from the airport to a hotel and plus the services of a local representative-all for one price. Some tour operators specialize in destinations; others in activities and experiences (e.g. skiing) and still others are specialists for the combination of both. Originally, the reason for being of tour operating was the difficulty of making travel arrangements in remote places where language, currency and communication problems were bound to arise. Not only do tour operators arrange DIY holidays for those who have no time to do so but also specialize in large group events and meetings such as conferences, seminars, conventions, etc. In addition, tour operators exercise contracting power with suppliers (airlines, hotels, other land arrangements, cruises, etc.) and influence over other authoritative entities in order to create packages and special departures for destinations otherwise difficult and expensive to visit.
